The main objective of this module is to enable students to understand the fundamental concepts in finance, assess alternative investment possibilities, and evaluate different sources of financing projects. Emphasis will be placed on the core knowledge and skills in the application of modern business finance theory with reference to practical case studies, and to provide students with an understanding of the key fundamental concepts of corporate finance. |

The main objective of this module is to provide students with understanding of (i) the basic financial statements including Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Account, Statement of Cash Flow, (ii) the theoretical techniques for analyzing those financial statements, (iii) a variety of valuation models to assess firm value and increase the understanding of different valuation models and their relationship to financial statement information, and (iv) the implementation of the theoretical knowledge into real life practice of financial statement analysis. |

The main objective of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the knowledge required by a professional personal financial consultant. Emphasis will be on the introduction of basic investment products and recent trends of personal financial planning techniques. Various investment products such as common stock, bonds, insurance will also be introduced in this module. Particular attention is given to forming a comprehensive and executable financial plan which reflects the most recent trends in financial consulting and planning. |

The main objective of this module is to introduce the basic idea of investment management: investment decision theory, securities analysis, modern portfolio theory and bond analysis. The investment environment of Hong Kong will be discussed. Students will to understand the nature of different types of investment products and apply the investment techniques in light of risk-return trade-offs. |

| Subject 5: Business Law (40 hours) |
| |
The course aims to give a brief introduction to the legal system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with emphasis on its legal and constitutional framework; and equip students with the fundamental knowledge of the legal principles of commercial transactions. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: |

have a clear understanding of the basic legal principles of the Law of Contract, Employment and Agency; |

The course aims to equip students with the basic understanding of the principles and concepts of accounting; develop students' ability to apply the accounting principles and concepts in the preparation of financial and related information to meet internal and external obligations; and build up students' basic ability to analyze and interpret financial statements. |

| Subject 7: Essentials of Banking Services (40 hours) |

This course aims to provide students with knowledge in the role of money and banking in the monetary and financial systems. It also aims to enable students to understand how monetary policy can be implemented. Monetary theory and issues related to the banking system and central banking in Hong Kong will be examined. Topics include nature of money, commercial banking structure, bank management and regulations, central banking, money supply process, and monetary theory and policy. |

| Subject 8: Risk Management (40 hours) |

This course builds on material in Business Management, Economics, Finance, and Business Strategy to give the student an insight into how a business can identify and measure is loss exposures and select appropriate tools for the management of that exposure. It also examines issues of Financial Management within the insurance enterprise. |

| Subject 9: Economics (40 hours) |
| |
This course aims to provide a general study of basic economic principles. It presents Economics not only as a mere body of knowledge but also as a method to understand current economic problems. Major topics covered are as follows: the nature and methods of Economics; demand and supply in the product and factor markets; national income accounting; simple national income determination model; aggregate demand and supply analysis; money supply and the central bank; international trade and finance; and the effects monetary and fiscal policies on the local economy. |

| Subject 10: Tax Planning (40 hours) |

This course aims to introduce students the basic principles of the taxes operated under the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Ordinance and its administration; enable students to understand the scope of charge, basis of assessment and relief of the salaries tax, profits tax and property tax; enable students to understand the relief under the personal assessment and the scope of charge and basis of assessment of stamp duty and estate duty; and understand the general tax planning. |

This course is to provide knowledge of the latest financial planning tools, major steps of financial planning process and the job knowledge requirements of a financial planner. |
